This is an old, beat-up street sign near my grandma's house.
I thought this was broken and beautiful at the same time because behind the ugliness of the powerlines and satellite dishes, there was the beauty of the sky and clouds.  
It had just rained when I took this picture.  I saw my reflection in a puddle.  
I thought this symbolized brokenness because it showed how the world is so taken with industry. (This was near the power plant.)
Even though a lot of buildings in LA have fire escapes, I thought this picture sort of symbolized the crowded conditions that a lot of people in the city have to live with.  
I thought this symbolized brokenness because it is the remains of a garden for underprivileged families that got torn down, leaving an empty lot.  In the background you can see Downtown, a symbol of prosperity, while in the foreground is a symbol of the difficulties many people in the city face.
On the freeway embankment by a dumpster was this flowering bush.  It reminded me of hope in the midst of trouble.  
This was beautiful Seal Beach after a rain
